Major livelihood water conservancy projects in Guangdong Province begin a new stage of shield tunneling

There are 14 mud-water balance shield machines in the follow-up optimization project for the connection of the Hanjiang, Rongjiang and Lianjiang water systems. Among them, the "Guangdong No. 5" shield machine tunneled from the project's GX07 working shaft to the GX06 working shaft. The tunnel is about 2,100 meters long. The "Guangdong No. 8" shield machine is responsible for the excavation of the GX09 to GX10 shield section. The tunnel is approximately 2,383 meters long. "Yuedong No. 12" is sent from the GX14 working shaft of the project to the GX13 working shaft. The tunnel is about 1,177 meters long. All three tunnels will be completed in 2024.

During the underground excavation process, "Yuedong No. 5" will pass through strongly weathered argillaceous siltstone, cataclastic rock, and strongly weathered feldspar quartz sandstone strata. During the excavation process of "Yuedong No. 8" and "Yuedong No. 12", they will pass through strata such as silty soil and medium-coarse sand layers. According to the stratigraphic conditions in different shield sections, the three shield machines have been specially designed in terms of cutterhead structure, cutter selection, over-excavation cutter, cutterhead wear resistance, cutterhead mud cake, etc. to meet the propulsion requirements.

Faced with complex strata, each project department has also established a remote information management system for shield tunneling construction, including shield tunneling construction informationsurveillance system and video surveillance system. This system builds an automatic tunnel construction data collection platform through a real-time data collection platform, data transmission network and ground monitoring center, and realizes remote information management.

The subsequent optimization project for the connection of the Hanjiang, Rongjiang and Lianjiang water systems is an important part of the "five vertical and five horizontal" water resources allocation backbone network in Guangdong Province. The total estimated investment of the project is 10.118 billion yuan, and the water transmission lines The total length is approximately 71.65 kilometers and the total construction period is 40 months. Guangdong Yuehai Holding Group is responsible for investment, construction, operation and management. The project is expected to be completed and connected to water in early 2026. After completion, it will increase the average annual increase in eastern Guangdong.The additional water supply volume of 311 million cubic meters will effectively increase the water supply volume and emergency water supply capacity in eastern Guangdong, and form a water supply guarantee system that adjusts for peak and dry seasons, complements multiple water sources, and can be used sustainably.
