The Wudongde Hydropower Station is the seventh largest hydropower station in the world and the fourth largest in China. It is located in the gorge section of the Jinsha River at the junction of Luquan County in Yunnan Province and Huidong County in Sichuan Province. The first batch of units will be put into operation in June 2020 as a major national project of "transmitting electricity to the east".

Wudongde Hydropower Station has installed a total of 12 units with a single capacity of 850,000 kilowattsHydraulic generator set has a total installed capacity of 10.2 million kilowatts and a designed multi-year average power generation of 38.91 billion kilowatt hours.

Up to now, five of the six power stations operated and managed by China Three Gorges Group including Gezhouba, Three Gorges, Xiangjiaba, Xiluodu, Baihetan and Wudongde are among the top in the world. The list of twelve major hydropower stations constitutes the world’s largest clean energy corridor.

The average annual power generation of the six power stations is about 300 billion kilowatt-hours, which can effectively alleviate the power shortage situation in central and eastern China and provinces such as Sichuan, Chongqing, Yunnan, and Guangdong. It provides important support for the "East-East Power Transmission" and the safe and stable operation of the power grid.
