Bigger and faster: SeaBubble fuel cell hydrofoil unveiled in Cannes
Release time:2024-09-03click:0
In 2019, French manufacturer SeaBubbles built a five-seater enclosed hydrofoil boat - Bubble Taxi. Now, the company has announced a bigger, faster model simply called the SeaBubble. Unveiled in full size at the Cannes Yachting Festival this month, SeaBubble is 8 meters long and 3.5 meters wide, can accommodate up to 12 passengers, is driven by two 45kW electric motors and powered by a hybrid system that includes hydrogen fuel cells and A lithium-ion battery pack.
Once it reaches 10 knots (19km/h), its composite fiber hull rises 60cm above the water on three self-deploying carbon fiber foils - one at the front, two One is at the back. It can then cruise smoothly at 18 knots (33 km/h).
According to the designer, it should be able to run for 2.5 hours at this speed after charging for 4 minutes at a hydrogen station. Its top speed is 22 knots (41 km/h).
Like Bubble Taxi, SeaBubble uses gyroscopes and altitude sensors to continuously measure pitch and roll angles and automatically stabilize itself accordingly. Some of its other features include gull-wing doors, heating/air conditioning, and a fly-by-wire system. Optional extras include an audio system, higher quality seats, an anti-fouling system and tinted windows.
There is no word on price yet, but SeaBubbles has said that the first batch of devices has begun production.
