The bathroom tiles have become loose and hollow within a year, what should I do?

Release time:2024-12-04click:0

The bathroom tiles have bulged less than a year after the bathroom was renovated. I believe every owner will feel very upset when encountering this kind of thing. They are always worried that the tiles will loosen and fall off the wall, causing safety hazards.

It is not difficult to solve this problem. First, you must find the cause of the loose ceramic tiles in the bathroom.

Why are bathroom tiles loose?

There are three main reasons why ceramic tiles become loose:

First, it is a problem with the tiles themselves. For example, the selected ceramic tile itself has a high density and does not match the selected material, or the back of the ceramic tile has not been cleaned, resulting in the paste material not being able to bond well with the back of the ceramic tile.

The second is the problem of pasting the material itself. For example, when laying ceramic tiles, cement mortar is chosen, but the material used is unqualified sand, has many impurities, has not been screened, or is expired or some substandard cement produced by small factories. In the end, The cement mortar may become pulverized in the later stage, causing the cement mortar to lose strength. This material can easily cause the tiles to loosen or fall off.

Third, there is the problem of the base layer of the wall where the ceramic tiles are pasted. After the tiles are loosened, remove the tiles and the plaster layer will be separated from the wall. We can see the base layer of the original wall, such as concrete and brick walls, which is a more serious situation.

What are the solutions?

If the tile itself is simply loose from the wall, it is recommended to use tile adhesive or some structural adhesive to apply on the back of the tile, and then paste it directly onto the base layer.

But if the looseness is caused by the original pasting material, it is recommended to remove the tiles first, clean the pasting material pasted to the base layer, and then use qualified cement mortar or tile adhesive to paste the tiles.

If it is because of the base layer of the wall where the tiles are pastedIf the problem causes the tiles to become loose, it is not recommended to directly glue the tiles on at this time. The loose base layer needs to be cleaned first, and then re-plastered according to the regular wall plastering procedures. Wait until the plastering is qualified before pasting the tiles. Ceramic tile adhesive or structural adhesive can be used as the pasting material, or cement mortar can be used for pasting.

Seeing this, some friends may be confused and do not understand the difference between cement mortar and tile adhesive.

Compared with cement mortar, tile adhesive is relatively simple and easy to use. Generally, you only need to add water and stir.

Cement mortar needs to be prepared before use, and it also needs to wet the wall, throw bricks, make supports, etc. The process is complicated, but the price is cheap.
